Pre-Production

Artist(s) spend time in our studio creating and refining their musical ideas and producing a demo recording or rough-draft of a song (to be established ahead of time). By doing so, this reduces time and money expenditures to be utilized on the final recording. The goal is to enter into the major recording phase of production with the basic and most promising ideas already established.

Tracking

When you come into the studio this is where the majority of the resources will be allocated. Our engineers will spend time micing up the instruments / performers, setting the proper gain structure, and capturing the best performance and tones possible. It takes a certain amount of time to properly position microphones and find the correct balances of instrument timbre. We urge you not to compromise time spent in properly tracking the instruments (afterall, what goes to 'tape' is what you ultimately hear in the final product). It is a best practice to set aside a minimum of 5 - 8 hours per recorded song for tracking purposes.

Mixing

After the entire tracking processing is complete, our engineers take the raw recorded files and transform it into audio that is more consistent to that of what you typically hear on the radio and other commercial releases. This practical, aesthetic or otherwise creative treatment is done in order to produce a mix that is more appealing to listeners. It is a best practice to set aside a minimum of 3 - 5 hours per recorded song for mixing purposes.

Mastering

We take the final mix version and further process the tracks by preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device (the master); the source from which all copies will be produced (via methods such as pressing, duplication or replication). We typically take the mix and make sure the tracks are in the proper order, mix levels are all evenly distributed throughout the full context of the project, and miscellaneous files are cleaned up if a re-mix is required at a later date. Sometimes our engineers will outsource the mastering process depending on if the tracking and mixing processes are heavily involved. The reason we outsource the process would be for purposes of detaching ourselves from something we may have become too intimate with over the life of the project. It makes for a better product and ultimately a greater client experience (based on past cases).
